Why The Joyce Baker Award Exists
In Friendswood, generations have built our community through selfless service. But many of these heroes never receive the acknowledgment they deserve.
The Joyce Baker Award exists to:
- Celebrate individuals whose volunteer work has made a lasting impact
- Preserve their story in Friendswood’s history
- Honor them in a way that reflects the spirit of Friendswood

That’s what this award represents and that’s what nominees should embody.
Nomination & Selection Process
1. Submit a Nomination
Fill out a simple form about a volunteer you admire.
2. Tell Their Story
Share how their service impacted Friendswood.
3. Committee Review
A diverse committee reviews submissions using clear, fair criteria.
4. Celebrate Winners
Three recipients are selected each year and honored publicly.

Who can be nominated
- Individuals with significant volunteer contributions to Friendswood
- Nominees must be living at the time of award selection
- Nominees do not have to currently live in Friendswood
- Past unpaid service (e.g., boards or civic roles) counts
- Current elected officials or Historical Society board members are not eligible
- Anyone (living anywhere) can submit a nomination
How do we honor them
- Photos and displays throughout Friendswood
- A lasting spot in Friendswood’s history
